MERRIAM, Kan. — Prairie Fresh®, a leading U.S. pork producer, launched its new campaign “Now That’s Pork.™” to highlight that not all pork is created equal, positioning the brand as the standard for quality and taste.

The campaign arrives as the National Pork Board’s “Taste What Pork Can Do™” initiative draws renewed attention to pork’s versatility and appeal. Prairie Fresh’s effort builds on that momentum by emphasizing consistent quality, integrity in sourcing and the opportunity to make pork a more frequent and confident choice on consumers’ plates.

“We saw an opportunity to take that national momentum and make it personal for consumers,” said Ozlem Worpel, vice president of marketing and innovation at ӰƵֱ. “By spotlighting the quality and care behind Prairie Fresh pork, we’re inviting people to rethink what pork can bring to the table — not just occasionally, but every day.”

“Now That’s Pork.” targets consumers who crave standout experiences in the kitchen but often don’t see meaningful differences between pork brands at the meat case. Prairie Fresh aims to change that perception through a fully integrated marketing effort that includes connected TV and digital ads, influencer and social media content, in-store signage and promotional partnerships across retail and foodservice.

At the core of Prairie Fresh’s approach is the Prairie Fresh Way — a connected food system that allows the brand to control every step of production, from farms and feed to processing and delivery. This model enables consistency, quality and taste in every bite.

The campaign also responds to evolving consumer expectations around transparency, value and trust in the brands they bring home. According to The Power of Meat 2025 report, 72% of consumers frequently or sometimes purchase value-added meat and poultry products, underscoring a growing demand for high-quality, ready-to-cook proteins that feel fresh, intentional and easy to use.

As part of the campaign, Prairie Fresh continues to innovate with new products inspired by direct consumer insights. Recent additions include ground pork/sausage in various flavors, offering convenient, versatile options for everyday meals. Prairie Fresh’s Hatch Chile Tenderloin — a popular flavor uncovered through consumer listening — was recently named one of Progressive Grocer’s Editors’ Best New Products of 2025. With even more new items launching later this month, Prairie Fresh is committed to helping consumers explore pork in fresh, flavorful ways.

PERRYTON, TEXAS — Today, ӰƵֱ extended its gratitude to Operation BBQ Relief (OBR) for its deployment to Perryton, Texas, after the disaster relief organization served 7,250 meals to tornado survivors and first responders June 17 through 21.

On June 15, a devastating tornado ripped through the Texas Panhandle town. For ӰƵֱ, producer of Prairie Fresh® pork, this disaster hit close to home. ӰƵֱ has employees who live in Perryton and work at nearby company-owned farms or other operations in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. More than 20 employees were displaced from their homes because of damage to or complete destruction of their homes and the company helped coordinate and secure housing for all displaced employees.

A long-time supporter of Operation BBQ Relief, the Prairie Fresh brand has supplied more than 3.5 million meals of pork since 2015, but this is the first time OBR deployed to a community where ӰƵֱ operates.

“This time supporting Operation BBQ Relief was much different because the disaster occurred in a place our employees call home,” says Davida Gomez, ӰƵֱ community enrichment specialist. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to OBR and its volunteers. To see how much a hot barbecue meal matters to those facing the toughest of times is truly amazing. We’re so glad to support Operation BBQ Relief and are truly grateful they came to Perryton to bring the healing power of barbecue to the community.”

For the Perryton deployment, Prairie Fresh donated more than 3,500 pounds of pork produced at its nearby Guymon, Okla., pork processing plant and had several employee volunteers help OBR prepare and serve meals.

About Operation BBQ Relief:

Operation BBQ Relief is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in May 2011 in response to a need for tornado relief efforts in Joplin, MO. Competitive pitmasters from eight different states answered the call to feed displaced families and first responders. Together, they were able to serve over 120,000 meals in a thirteen-day period. This experience of building a network to feed individuals in need has been the inspiration for Operation BBQ Relief. To date, Operation BBQ Relief has provided over 10 million meals throughout the United States and internationally following natural disasters and through The Always Serving Project, benefiting the homeless, first responders, veterans, and service men and women.

WASHINGTON — ӰƵֱ earned a Worker Safety Award of Merit for improving and achieving high levels of safety performance at its Guymon, Okla., pork processing from the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) at the 2023 Environmental, Labor and Safety+ Conference in Carlsbad, Calif. NAMI recognized more than 160 companies at its awards ceremony.

“NAMI is proud of these companies and their leadership for continuing to prioritize the health and safety of the hard workers who help feed America,” said NAMI President and CEO Julie Anna Potts. “These awards recognize the commitments made by the industry in the Protein PACT to further reduce workplace injuries by 50 percent by 2030.”

The Worker Safety Recognition Awards honor plants that have achieved a high level of safety performance as part of the continuing effort to reduce occupational injury and illness. The Worker Safety Award Winners can be found .

“Providing employees with a safe working environment continues to be our highest priority and something that is top of mind for all our employees,” said ӰƵֱ Vice President of Human Resources Grae Griffin. “We are grateful to be recognized for our commitment to making our workplace a safe place for our employees.”

The various levels of awards – including the Award of Honor, Award of Merit, Award of Commendation, and the Certificate of Recognition – are based on an evaluation, conducted by the National Safety Council of each eligible plant’s actual safety performance as well as its implementation of various key components of an effective safety and health program. The National Safety Council staff examined Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Total Recordable Cases rate and the rate for Cases With Days Away From Work, Job Transfer, or Restriction (DART) data for each facility.

Companies that earned these awards also reported data in 2022 for The Protein PACT, which is uniting the largest-ever industry effort to strengthen animal protein’s contributions to healthy people, healthy animals, healthy communities, and a healthy environment.

MERRIAM, Kan. – Although the Kansas City football team won the big game in February, (OBR) and came out the big winners with each receiving $10,000 in pork products from ӰƵֱ and Leidy’s Premium Meats.

Prior to the big game, ӰƵֱ, with its headquarters in the Kansas City metro, and Leidy’s Premium Meats, based in the Philadelphia metro, challenged each other. If Philadelphia won the game, ӰƵֱ agreed to make a pork donation to Leidy’s charity of choice, Philabundance, and if Kansas City won, Leidy’s would donate to Operation BBQ Relief.

Leading up to the game, both companies engaged in friendly social media bragging to support their hometown football teams and their favorite charities. In the end, the two companies set aside their friendly challenge after Kansas City won the game and agreed to make a $10,000 pork donation to each charity.

“While we may have lost the challenge, we are appreciative of the industry comradery displayed by our friends at ӰƵֱ leading up to the big game and are excited to be able to support a win in the fight against hunger for both Kansas City and Philadelphia,” Chris Mulder, president of Leidy’s Premium Meats.

Armed with a caravan of cooks, mobile pits, kitchens and volunteers, Operation BBQ Relief delivers the healing power of BBQ in times of need, feeding first responders and communities affected by natural disasters along with year-round efforts to fight hunger through its The Always Serving Project® and Camp OBR™ programs. ӰƵֱ and its Prairie Fresh® pork brand have supported OBR since 2015 and donated more than 3 million pork meals to the organization.

Philabundance seeks to drive out hunger in the communities it serves and to end hunger for good. Philabundance is a proud member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks leading the fight against hunger in the United States, and is supported by Leidy’s Premium Meats.

“Both of these organizations do so much for those they serve,” says Chad Groves, sr. vice president of sales, marketing and innovation for ӰƵֱ. “As we showed our hometown pride, it was so much fun to highlight the good work of both groups leading up to the big game. We’re honored to support these deserving organizations with donations that will help them continue feeding those in need.”

Guymon, Okla.(Jan. 9, 2023) — Last week, 23 students from 16 different colleges participated in ӰƵֱ’ annual Winternship program. The week-long Winternship provides an opportunity for students to explore the operations of a connected pork production company, network with company experts, better define career paths and gain knowledge about how pork is produced.

“Studies have shown there are misconceptions and a low awareness regarding career paths in agriculture for college students. ӰƵֱ’ Winternship showcases the diverse opportunities available within the pork industry by offering a week packed full of activities within our integrated system,” says Jennie Watkins, director of human resources at ӰƵֱ.

Maycee Price, a senior at Tarleton State University, plans to earn her master’s degree in agriculture and consumer science with an emphasis in leadership after graduation. With a background showing pigs, she chose to attend Winternship because she wanted more information about ӰƵֱ and how it operates.

“I’m passionate about agriculture and excited to tell everyone what I have learned at ӰƵֱ. The whole process has been surprising to me. It’s crazy how many pigs and sows that are cared for here, and there are so many details involved in the farm to fork process,” said Price.

ӰƵֱ’ Winternship started in 2010, and since then, 258 students have completed this unique educational opportunity. Students augment their formal education with a real-world view of the industry through tours and presentations, connection with professionals and better define their career goals through a look at career paths.

Many times, exploratory Winternship opportunities result in a longer-term commitment with students. Last year ӰƵֱ offered nearly two-thirds of the Winternship students paid summer internships or trainee positions.

“We want the Winternship to provide a realistic look at how pork is produced and the job opportunities our sector of agriculture has to offer,” says Grae Griffin, vice president of human resources at ӰƵֱ. “As an industry, we have a responsibility to ignite students’ passions about the pork industry and demonstrate that we are innovative and provide opportunities for fulfilling careers.”

With young people having less exposure to agriculture, farming, and rural life, opportunities like the ӰƵֱ’ Winternship are more important than ever. They learn about ӰƵֱ’ unique integrated business, and about the many different business sectors the company touches. Students gain knowledge about the company’s departments from operations of farms, feed mills, and a pork processing plant, to transportation, environmental resource management, food safety, supply chain, finance, human resources, marketing, sales and more.

“Our Winternship experience is a great way to show students how pork is produced from beginning to end. The information they take away is key to building future industry leaders and advocates,” says Rick Sappington, plant vice president and general manager for ӰƵֱ.

About ӰƵֱ

Peculiar, Mo. (Nov. 3, 2022) – After sending three truckloads of ® pork to support Operation BBQ Relief’s (OBR) deployment in Port Charlotte, Fla., Prairie Fresh volunteers cleaned and organized the OBR warehouse in Peculiar, Mo., this past week. Fifteen employees from ӰƵֱ, a producer of Prairie Fresh pork, organized the warehouse and four storage containers filled with equipment and supplies to restock for future OBR deployments.

“We are happy to help Operation BBQ Relief in any way we can. They have done all the heavy lifting by feeding Florida residents this past month. The work we performed should make responding to the next emergency easier for staff and volunteers,” said ӰƵֱ Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Chad Groves.

Prairie Fresh has donated pork for 509,000 meals to OBR this year, much of it feeding those affected by Hurricane Ian and the first responders helping. OBR deployed to Florida in early October to feed residents impacted by the category 4 hurricane that was the deadliest to hit the state since 1935. The hurricane carried 150-mile winds and a storm surge claiming over 150 lives in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Cuba and causing over $50 billion in flooding and other destruction of property.

During this deployment, OBR served its 10 millionth hot meal since it was founded in 2011 following the Joplin, Mo., tornado. Since 2015, Prairie Fresh has been the official pork supplier to Operation BBQ Relief and has donated pork for 3.5 million meals to the organization.
